    Can Dogs Eat Mangos?

    Can Dogs Eat Mangos?

Summary: “Can my dog eat mango?” In this blog, we’ll learn whether mangoes are good for dogs, if your dog can have dried mango, and if they can eat this exotic fruit’s skin too...

    Can Dogs Have Mangos?

If you’ve ever wondered “can dogs eat mangos?” the answer is yes – in moderation, of course. However, the pit and the skin should be removed before offering your furry friend bitesize pieces of this juicy fruit.

    Are Mangoes Good For Dogs?

Mangos are loaded with vitamins C, E, B6, and A and are rich in fiber which arguably most dogs lack in their diet.

Mangos pose a choking hazard to dogs – particularly small breeds - if they aren’t cut into bitesize pieces, so make sure to do this.

Squares of orange, ripe and juicy mango sit in a blue and white bowl on a green, white and blue patterned table cloth. A dark blue vase rests in the background.

You should also remove the skin of the mango before you put it in your canine’s bowl. The mango skin, while safe to eat, can prove difficult for a pooch to digest.

The mango pit should also be removed as it contains small amounts of cyanide (which is toxic to dogs), as well as posing a risk of choking. It’s also possible that a mango pit can get stuck in your dog’s digestive tract and cause a blockage.

And, as with all high fiber foods, regardless of them being deemed as safe – too much can cause gastrointestinal upset (abdominal distress, vomiting, gas and/or diarrhea). So, if you choose to share mango with your pup, be mindful to only give your dog a small amount of mango a day.

If you have any concerns after your dog eats anything new, contact your vet.

    Can Dogs Eat Dried Mango?

It shouldn't harm your dog to eat a small piece of dried mango, but fresh is best when it comes to sharing fruit and vegetables with your pet. When fruits are dried, their sugar content goes up and their nutritional benefits deplete so while not explicitly dangerous, dried mango doesn't make the healthiest treat for your dog.
