Can Dogs Eat Cantaloupe?
Yes, dogs can eat cantaloupe! As with all food though, it should only be shared with them in moderation.
Is Cantaloupe Good For Dogs?
Cantaloupe is packed with fiber, folate, potassium, niacin, antioxidants, and vitamins C, A, K, and B6. It also has a high water content meaning it can be a great way to help rehydrate your pup on a warm day and it’s also relatively low in calories.
Because cantaloupe is a fruit, it does contain higher levels of naturally occurring sugar so you should avoid feeding dogs with diabetes cantaloupe.
Cantaloupe For Dogs
When serving cantaloupe to your dog, make sure you remove the rind and only serve them the flesh of the fruit. The rinds can cause blockages in your dog’s digestive tract, are very hard for your dog to digest, and can also pose a choking hazard.
Although the seeds are technically OK for a dog to consume, they can also pose a choking hazard so you may feel more comfortable removing them before offering a piece to your pup. Make sure to cut up the cantaloupe into small, bitesize chunks – again, to prevent choking.
If it’s your dog’s first time trying a piece of cantaloupe, then keep an eye out for any adverse reactions (vomiting, diarrhea, etc.). You should do this with every new piece of food your dog is introduced to. If you spot any signs of a problem, don’t hesitate to reach out to your vet.
