    Easy Homemade Dog Treats Recipes

Sometimes it is nice to spoil your pup, especially if they have been through some big changes, have a special birthday coming up, or have just been a good dog! Either way, nothing beats making a few homemade treats to show your pup just how much you adore them. When it comes to homemade treats, the bonus is that you know exactly what you’re feeding your pooch and can even slip a few extra ingredients to support their health needs, not just to give them a yummy snack.

As their puppy parent, you know what they need and want, so why not take advantage of this knowledge and utilize it to create some amazing homemade goodies? Take a look at some of the delicious recipes we have found that will leave your pup feeling truly spoilt…

Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats With Coconut Oil (Grain-Free!)

Try These Homemade Grain Free Dog Treats!

Lots of homemade dog-treat recipes out there contain flour, oats and other grain-based products, but that isn’t great for most dog's digestion. This homemade wonder only needs three ingredients, and none of them include grain!

    • 1 cup of all-natural peanut butter
    • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
    • 1 tablespoon of unprocessed coconut oil

First things first, make sure that your coconut oil is in liquid form. If it is still hard, you need to place the coconut oil into a small saucepan and heat until melted. Once it is a liquid, slowly add the cup of peanut butter and the teaspoon of cinnamon to the oil. Gently stir the mixture together until smooth and blended into a creamy, thick, golden paste.

Add the golden mixture to a baking tray and freeze until set. Once set, remove from the tray and add to an air-tight container, return to the freezer.

PETLAB CO. PRO TIP: The coconut oil amount in these treats will change depending on the size of your dog. For example, 1 tablespoon equates to 10 pounds of your pup’s body weight.

Homemade Pumpkin Dog Treats With Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is always a good ingredient to put into your homemade puppy treats. Not only will the natural oils support their overall health, but the protein will give your pup the extra boost! These biscuit bites will leave your pooch drooling for more of the nutty-pumpkin goodness.

NOTE: This treat is not suitable for dogs on grain-free diets.

    • 1 cup of pumpkin
    • 2 eggs
    • ½ cup of peanut butter
    • ¼ cup of vegetable oil
    • 2 ½ cups of whole wheat flour
    • 1 teaspoon of baking soda

To start, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and leave to get nice and hot. Grab a bowl and mix the pumpkin, peanut butter, olive oil, and eggs together. Slowly add the baking soda and flour to the bowl and stir. Once the dough starts to become stiff, knead it out, and roll with a rolling pin out flat. Using a cookie cutter of your choice, cut the dough into shapes or just into circles.

Place into the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Store in an air-tight container in the fridge and give to your fluffy friend whenever they deserve a little tasty treat.

Homemade Chicken Dog Treats With Rice

Let’s face it, our pups love meaty treats, so why not make a few homemade goodies for your pooch? Chicken and rice are two simple ingredients that the majority of dogs can digest well. This easy recipe can be changed to make either frozen or baked doggy treats.

NOTE: This treat is not suitable for dogs with chicken allergies.

    Baked Chicken & Rice Bites

    • 1 cup of cooked, diced chicken
    • ½ cup of rice – cooked and mashed
    • 1 egg
    • 1 tablespoon of parsley
    • 3 tablespoons of rice flour

Make sure your oven is preheated to 350 degrees. Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl and stir together, making sure that the chicken and rice are blended in smoothly. Spoon the mixture into silicone molds of your choice and bake in the preheated oven for 20 – 30 minutes – or until the top of the treats are golden brown. Leave to cool and remove from the molds, place into an air-tight container and store in the fridge.

    Frozen Chicken & Rice Bites

    • 1 cup of cooked, diced chicken
    • ½ cup of cooked rice
    • 1 cup of chicken stock
    • 1 tablespoon of parsley

Pop ingredients into a food processor and blend together into a paste. Scoop the mixture into silicone molds and place in the freezer until the treats solidify. These cold goodies are perfect for a warm summers day to help keep your pooch cool or for a teething puppy to reduce discomfort in the gums.

Easy Homemade Dog Treats: Frozen Watermelon Nibbles (Grain-Free)

Try These Homemade Grain Free Dog Treats!

During the hot summer months, it can be hard to keep your pup cool! These frozen watermelon nibbles are perfect to help your dog during the dry, hot summer days – and they will love the taste!

    • ¼ of watermelon (seedless)
    • A can of coconut milk

Take the ¼ of watermelon and scoop it out into a mixing bowl. Add the coconut milk and blend the two together, adding more watermelon if the mixture is too light. Pour the contents into an ice-cube tray and freeze.

Easy Homemade Dog Treats: Sweet Potato Fries (Grain-Free)

Try These Homemade Grain Free Dog Treats!

If you have a pup that gives you the puppy dog eyes to share your snacks, then this might be the perfect homemade treat. This recipe can be enjoyed by both you and your pup! Not only can you both sit and enjoy the tasty treat together, but the health benefits it can offer your pooch are amazing, supporting their joints by adding turmeric and cinnamon.

    • 1 Sweet Potato
    • 1 tablespoon of melted Coconut Oil
    • ½ teaspoon of Turmeric
    • ½ teaspoon of Cinnamon

Turn your oven up to 425 degrees and leave to warm up. While it is heating, wash and peel a sweet potato and cut up into long fry shaped pieces. Lay them out onto a baking tray and coat with coconut oil, turmeric, and cinnamon. Place in the oven and bake the fries for 15 minutes, take out and flip, then pop back into the oven for another 10 – 15 minutes. Once cooked, leave to cool a little before enjoying the tasty treat with your pup.

Easy Homemade Dog Treats: Ginger & Apple Bites (Grain-Free)

Try These Homemade Grain Free Dog Treats!

This recipe is another perfect alternative for a pup on a grain-free diet. With so many doggy biscuits made from grain, it can be hard to find a suitable one for your furry friend, that’s why it might be best to make some from home – and you can add a few extra supplements to the recipe…

    • ½ cup of diced apple
    • 1 cup of brown rice flour
    • ½ cup of Greek yogurt
      • ½ tablespoon of fresh ginger
      • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil

While the oven is heating at 350 degrees, add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and stir together until blended into an even mixture. Pour the contents of the bowl onto a flat surface and knead. Take a rolling pin and flatten the mixture out, until about a ¼ inch thick. Cut into your chosen shape and place on a baking tray in the oven. Bake for 25 minutes or until the biscuits turn golden brown.
